space Symposium of Electronics and Telecommunications ETc 2008 - Eighth Edition - Provisional Program

The Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications is honored to invite members from academia and industry to submit papers and participate to the Symposium of Electronics and Telecommunications, which is a scientific event organized every two years. After technical revision, the papers are published in dedicated volumes of the Scientific Bulletin of the "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Transactions on Electronics and Telecommunications, ISSN 1583-3380 (

The former (seventh) edition took place in 2006, and has been supported in part by IEEE, Romania Section, the Academy of Technical Sciences, Romania, and Association of Electrical Engineers from Timisoara. Only 89 papers were accepted for presentation and publication, out of 122 submitted papers, resulting a rejection ratio of 27% (

For the next edition, scheduled for September 25th-26th 2008, contributions in the fields of Electronic Circuits, Neural Networks, Power Electronics, Robotics, Communications, Signal and Image Processing, Instrumentation and Measurements, Microwaves, and Education are expected. Symposium sections will be organized depending on the number and quality of submissions. New sections proposals, coming from well known personalities, capable of gathering an important number of high quality contributions are strongly encouraged and acknowledged.

The title of the speech will be Metamorphoses and promises of error correction coding. Please find the abstract below:
Error correction coding, that is, writing information with redundancy is an essential function of modern communication systems. This type of coding has evolved significantly in recent years relying on new principles in distributed and probabilistic processing. These concepts that helped constructing powerful error correcting codes, such as turbo codes and LDPC codes, are transposable to various fields other than telecommunications. Error correction coding broadens his field of applications as the science of redundancy.
